PSYCHIATRIC PROBLEMS IN PATIENTS WITH SEVERE PHYSICAL ILLNESS


Abstract
Psychosomatic medicine is based upon the observation that psychological and sociocultural stresses may play a role in the predisposition, onset, course, and response to treatment of some physiological changes and biomedical disorders. Longterm, significant psychological stress may play a role in precipitating the onset of diabetes or in causing excacerbations and psychosocial adjustment is strongly related to diabetes control. Developing diabetes, which is known by many people to be a chronic, potentially severe disorder, may evoke a number of psychological responses.
We experienced a male patient with bipolar disorder, depressive episode who are suffering severe physical illness of late complications of dibetes and report the case. We review the psychiatrioc problems in patients with severe physical illness.
